Au moment de leur instal­la­tion puis pendant leur fonc­tion­ne­ment, les infra­struc­tures des réseaux Télé­com (câbles, fibres optiques, connec­teurs, etc.) doivent pouvoir être contrô­lées sur le terrain. Le prin­ci­pal diagnos­tic permet­tant de mesu­rer la qualité d’une route optique de bout en bout est réalisé grâce aux mesures de réflec­to­mé­trie.

Focus sur la réflec­to­mé­trie 

La réflec­to­mé­trie est une méthode de diagnos­tic non destruc­tif, repo­sant sur le prin­cipe de fonc­tion­ne­ment du radar. Cette tech­nique est utili­sée dans de nombreux domaines comme l’étude des sols, la santé et les réseaux Télé­com. Un signal est envoyé à travers une surface pour mesu­rer sa réflexion. L’ana­lyse du signal réflé­chi permet de loca­li­ser et de quali­fier les défauts de conduc­tion du signal.

La réflec­to­mé­trie permet d’ob­te­nir, en une seule opéra­tion, grâce à un réflec­to­mètre optique OTDR :

Le réflec­to­mètre optique OTDR 

Un réflec­to­mètre optique OTDR (Opti­cal Time Domain Reflec­to­me­ter) est un appa­reil de mesure destiné à analy­ser le signal optique renvoyée par une fibre optique. La méthode de mesure est basée sur la tech­nique de rétro­dif­fu­sion ou de réflec­to­mé­trie optique dans le domaine tempo­rel, et permet de mesu­rer et de quali­fier :

  • l’af­fai­blis­se­ment ;
  • la linéa­rité ;
  • les pertes d’in­ser­tion ;
  • les épis­sures ;
  • les soudures ;
  • la longueur et la loca­li­sa­tion des défauts des fibres optiques ;
  • la réflec­tance.

3 moments clés pour réali­ser les mesures de réflec­to­mé­trie

#1 Avant les travaux

Les mesures de réflec­to­mé­trie sur site permettent de véri­fier l’in­té­grité des câbles avant leur déploie­ment (pour s’as­su­rer notam­ment qu’ils n’ont pas été dété­rio­rés entre leur sortie d’usine et le stockage sur le chan­tier).

#2 Après les travaux

Après la pose des câbles et leur connexion, les mesures de réflec­to­mé­trie servent à vali­der les routes optiques (les points de faiblesse sont géné­ra­le­ment dus à la pose sur de grandes longueurs, aux condi­tions de pose diffi­cile ou à la fragi­lité du câble).

#3 Pendant l’ex­ploi­ta­tion du réseau Télé­com

La main­te­nance cura­tive consiste à surveiller en temps réel le bon fonc­tion­ne­ment du réseau. L’objec­tif est de détec­ter les pannes et arrêts de fonc­tion­ne­ment, souvent provoqués par la vétusté d’un compo­sant, la perte d’étan­chéité ou la rupture d’un câble suite à des travaux. Aujourd’­hui, le déploie­ment indus­triel de la fibre optique est arrivé à matu­rité, tout en évoluant vers des débits de plus en plus élevés. Cepen­dant, seul un nombre très restreint d’opé­ra­teurs d’in­fra­struc­tures sont en mesure de réali­ser une exploi­ta­tion opti­male de leur réseau.

La main­te­nance cura­tive consiste à surveiller le réseau en temps réel et à détec­ter des pannes comme, notam­ment, la coupure d’un câble lors de travaux. Quand le système de super­vi­sion est inter­facé avec son SIG Télé­com, la panne est géolo­ca­li­sée rapi­de­ment et permet d’en­voyer une équipe de main­te­nance réseau sur la route optique endom­ma­gée. En paral­lèle, les abon­nés touchés par ce dysfonc­tion­ne­ment sont préve­nus de la panne et de sa prise en charge.
